Phoenix Mountain is the famed home of the Dancong (single bush) teas. Generally wulongs, these teas have a unique flavor. They are deep, woodsy, fruity, floral, and complex. Having yet to find a better descriptor, I have come to refer to their unique flavor as "phoenix-like." This Dancong Black is somewhat of a hybrid, as far as its flavor it concerned, having some of the phoenix-like flavor of its wulong cousins coupled with a rich black tea sweetness.
Its leaves are black with streaks of brownish red, twisting like tendrils. Its smell is dark and deep, reminiscent of the deep forest, marshmallow, and chocolate, while being reminiscent of its wulong cousins. Its flavor is complex, sweet, slightly tart, and reminiscent of oranges.
While some say Dancongs are not traditionally brewed beyond the fifth steeping, this tea can last up to about a dozen brews.
