While this name is often identified with a bold, mesquite flavor akin to BBQ sauce, this particular Zhengshan Xiaozhong (more commonly known in the west as Lapsang Souchong), grown on the slopes of the Wuyi Mountains, is a non-smoky varietal of the utmost quality, which lies in stark contrast to the "like a campfire in my mouth" styles.

Dry, its leaves carry an aroma that is deep, sweet, rich, and rosy.  Wet, its bouquet is sweet, deep, woody, full, complex, cozy, warm, and soothing, reminiscent of a deep shade of red.  Its flavor is unique, somewhat akin to rooibos, mellow, yet deep.  The palate opens up to receive the smooth, complex sweetness of this tea.  Overall, this tea tastes nourishing and heartwarming.  While its qi is warm and soothing, its caffeine content is relatively high, making it rather stimulating.

Grown in the Wuyi Mountains.

Lasts up to a dozen brews.

Price is per 50 grams/1.76 ounces
