Dating from the Song Dynasty, the technique of Jianzhan was lost art in China for hundreds of years. Luckily, the technique, having previously spread to Japan, was reintroduced to China in the 1990's. They say of Jianzhan: "One glaze, a thousand colors." While this set is vibrantly stunning on its own, the addition of tea accentuates its brilliance, particularly bringing out shades of blue and gold. This glaze is rich in iron; thus, drinking from this teaware not only improves the flavor of the tea, it is also said to benefit the blood.
