This elegantly curved tea filter is adorned by a beautiful, forest-green glaze. Its slight mottling is reminiscent of the patina of ancient metal artefacts. Both in its glaze and in the three-legged form of its base, this filter hearkens back to the ding (tripods) of ancient China. These were large bronze vessels that stood on three legs, which would be given as a way to honor someone for deeds and accomplishments that would be inscribed within. Hundreds of years later, most people did not know their original purpose, and these now-patinaed ding were generally repurposed as incense burners. This style became so popular, that creating the appearance of this patina, once acquired through time and disuse, became commonplace. While not composed of rusted iron or copper, the style of this filter is a nod to this ancient style.
