Developed over a thousand years ago in the Tang Dynasty, Jun style teaware is considered to be one of the five great ceramic styles of ancient China. The kiln that originally produced it being near the ancient site of Jun Tai, it was named the Juntai Kiln or the Jun Kiln, and the pottery style it produced, once used to make tributary ceramics for the imperial palace, became known as Jun Ceramic or Jun ware. The copper in this glaze gives each piece a unique coloration and pattern. Each pattern, produced by the fires of the kiln, is unique. Thus, they say about Jun ware:
"One color goes into the kiln, a myriad of colors come out."
Jun ware has a 72 step process in its creation, and it is the unique crystallization of the glaze as it cools after being fired that yield its unique snowflakes. They say of Jun ware:
"A fortune is not as valuable as a piece of Jun ware."
