Dragonwell, often referred to as the "King of Green Teas," is named after the well at the base of Lion's Peak, which is where Dragonwell originated.  The surrounding village and nearby temple also took on this name.  It was called the Dragon Well, as it was thought to be connected to the Eastern Sea (Pacific Ocean), dwelling place of dragons, and the ripples on the surface of its water are said to be from dragons swimming underneath.

Dragonwell is generally divided into two types: pre-Qingming harvest and post-Qingming harvest, Qingming being the Tomb Sweeping Festival in the Spring when people in China pay respect to their deceased ancestors.  Dragonwell picked before this date tends to have more of a subtle mung bean flavor and aroma, and, as the leaves are less mature, tends to retain more of its white fuzz of youth.  Dragonwell picked after this date tends to have a bolder, green, forest flavor.

This particular Dragonwell was organically grown (USDA certified), in concert with the Rainforest Alliance, with ecological principles held paramount.  The fertilizer used in growing this tea comes utilizes the waste products of other agricultural industries (namely, the husks of canola and tung seeds).

This Dragonwell has a verdant, grassy, deep jungle/forest flavor, iconic of a post-Qingming harvest Dragonwell, along with some of the more gentle mung-bean elements that tend to be more prominent in earlier harvests.

This sustainably grown tea has a grassy verdant flavor, and lasts for 3-5 brews.  Just take care not to overbrew it, as Dragonwell can become bitter if brewed for too long with excessively hot water.

Lasts for several brews.
