This jovial, four-legged fortune frog, a traditional symbol of wealth and abundance, holds a yuanbao, also known as a sycee.  Starting around 23 centuries ago, gold and silver in China was often formed into these yuanbao for use as currency.  Thus, it, like the fortune frog, also symbolizes material abundance and prosperity.  This fortune frog is grinning with contentment, enjoying the great wealth of the present while looking hopefully toward the future.

This tea pet was handmade in Dingshuzhen the home of Yixing zisha clay (Yixing being the name of the nearest big city).  It was hand-sculpted from a combination of Da Hong Pao (Big Red Robe) and Dou Qing Lü (Bean Green) Yixing clay.
