Rich and warming, this tea is a classic black (or "red," as it would be known in Chinese). Its leaves are small, curled, and delicate, black streaked with veins of golden fuzz, accented by the occasional bit of deep red. It has a deep aroma of nature, with a hint of plum sweetness upon exhalation. As a classic black it is easily approachable for those who are newer to tea or who may be unaccustomed to some of the more unusual flavors found in other blacks. This is a spicy black, with a heavy herbal/medicinal flavor component. It comes from Yixing, home of Zisha teaware (commonly known as Yixing). Overall, the flavor of this tea reminds me of black and white photos of a rocky landscape, like the shale-covered mountains where the bristlecone pines, the oldest trees in the world, grow.
